ABOUT THE ARTIST — LEA NOVGRAD

Lea Novgrad is a contemporary abstract and mixed-media artist whose work is rooted in emotion, transformation, and personal evolution. Her paintings explore how pressure shapes us — and how clarity and beauty often emerge from moments of fracture.

In 2019, Lea moved to Aspen, a place she had dreamed of calling home for years. Surrounded by mountains, raw nature, and a community of visionaries, she built a new life from the ground up. While working closely with luxury real estate clients, she continued refining her artistic voice, often painting late into the night after days spent navigating high-stakes negotiations. Aspen itself became her muse — the light, the altitude, the drama of the landscape, and the sense of individuality required to thrive there.

One of the most defining influences on her work is skiing. Standing at the top of a Black Diamond run — facing fog, wind, white-outs, cliffs, moguls, and the unknown — Lea discovered a metaphor for her own journey. The Black Diamond symbol came to represent resilience, boldness, and the willingness to carve a path even when visibility is low.

During the difficult year of 2020, she did not paint at all. When she returned to the canvas in 2021, she re-entered with fresh urgency, capturing the thousands of white crystalline “diamonds” she saw sparkling over Aspen’s slopes and translating them into her work.

Her Diamond Series is one of her most personal collections. She reimagines the diamond not as a symbol of luxury, but as a metaphor for survival, pressure, transformation, and emergence. Each piece carries the emotional topography of someone who has reinvented herself in one of the most challenging yet inspiring landscapes in America.

Known for layered surfaces, mixed media, and luminous color fields, Lea combines oil, acrylic, and textured materials to create works that feel both raw and refined. Her paintings invite viewers to look beyond the surface and discover the stories hidden in each layer — stories of risk, clarity, and the discipline it takes to move forward when life becomes steep.

Today, Lea continues to evolve her artistic practice through abstraction, conceptual work, and series that celebrate emergence, resilience, and the unexpected beauty found in imperfection.
